Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Audio Pen (“we”, “us”) handles information when you use the Audio Pen mobile and desktop apps.

1. Summary in plain language

  • Your notes and audio are stored on your device.
  • We may keep a small anonymous cloud record about the install (for example subscription status). It is not a traditional name-and-password account.
  • If you use AI dictation, you paste your own GROQ API key. That key stays on your device. Audio you send for AI transcription goes to Groq, not to us.

2. Information we store on your device

Audio Pen stores content locally on your phone, tablet, or computer, including:

  • Note text and related metadata (dates, folders, settings)
  • Images you attach to notes (if you use that feature)
  • App preferences (for example dark mode, dictation engine choice)
  • Optional Power Feature unlock state and subscription plan markers stored securely on the device
  • Your GROQ API key, if you choose to save one (stored on the device; not uploaded to Audio Pen servers as part of normal note sync)

3. Microphone and audio

We request microphone access so you can dictate notes. Audio is processed to create text. For on-device dictation, processing happens on your device. For AI dictation, audio is sent to Groq using the API key you provide, under Groq’s terms and privacy practices.

4. Anonymous cloud record

To support subscriptions and app integrity across reinstalls, Audio Pen may create or update a small anonymous record in the cloud (for example via Supabase). This may include technical identifiers for the install, device type, and subscription-related fields. It is not used as a public social profile and does not require you to sign in with Google or Apple for core note-taking.

5. Third-party services

  • Apple / Google — app distribution, on-device speech and translation frameworks where applicable, and in-app purchases when you subscribe.
  • Groq — only if you enable AI dictation and supply your own API key. Your use of Groq is subject to Groq’s policies.
  • Cloud infrastructure (e.g. Supabase) — anonymous install / subscription record described above.

6. What we do not do

  • We do not sell your notes.
  • We do not require a social login to capture basic on-device notes.
  • We do not use your note content for advertising.

7. Data retention and deletion

You can delete notes inside the app (including permanently from Deleted Notes). Uninstalling the app removes local data on that device. Reset App can clear activation / power-feature state while keeping notes, as described in the app. If you need help with residual anonymous cloud records, contact us at the email below.

8. Children’s privacy

Audio Pen is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). Do not use the app if you are under that age.

9. Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the app after an update means you accept the revised policy.
